For Immediate Release
1/29/13

Today, the Pennsylvania Senate adopted State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf’s SR 6, directing the Joint State Government Commission to assemble an advisory committee to study the causes of mass violence and recommend preventative measures to the General Assembly.

In light of the Sandy Hook shooting and other mass shootings in recent months and years, the committee will study the underlying causes of these tragedies and other violent crimes.

Senator Greenleaf said, “The committee will be free to examine all issues surrounding cases of violence from firearm issues to bullying and mental health.  I believe this committee will provide meaningful direction and help the Legislature address many of the complex issues surrounding mass shootings.”

The task force will be composed of about 25 public officials and various experts on the subject of preventing violence.
