HARRISBURG – This week the General Assembly advanced Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr.’s (R-47) stroke registry legislation, Senate Bill 411, and is set to become law.
“I have championed this legislation for a long time and am glad to see it finally become a reality thanks to strong collaboration with stake holders and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle,” said Vogel. “Strokes continue to be the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. Any and all data that can be gathered and made available can make an immense difference when it comes to providing stroke care to patients.”
This legislation would establish a statewide stroke registry, administered by the state Department of Health, and includes a confidentiality clause ensuring any submitted registry data would not include an individual’s confidential or personally identifiable information.
Senate Bill 411 now goes to the governor’s desk to be signed. The bill would go into effect 60 days after it is enacted.
Over the last several years, Vogel has championed other health care-focused bills that have also become law including his landmark legislation to expand telemedicine (Act 42 of 2024) and his bill to increase access to sexual assault nurse examiners (Act 59 of 2023).
