HARRISBURG – Senator Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) hosted a special ceremony at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on Tuesday, June 10, to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of women veterans from across the Commonwealth. The event was held in recognition of Women Veterans Day, observed annually in Pennsylvania on June 12.
Women Veterans Day was officially established through legislation sponsored by Senator Pennycuick in 2022, ensuring that Pennsylvania formally recognizes the contributions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The law designates June 12 as a day to honor their legacy and raise awareness of the unique challenges women face during and after military service.
“As a U.S. Army combat veteran, it was deeply meaningful to bring this day of recognition to Pennsylvania,” said Senator Pennycuick. “For generations, women have served our nation with distinction—often without the recognition they deserve. This ceremony is one way we say thank you and ensure their stories are heard.”
The Capitol ceremony featured remarks from state leaders, service members, and included special recognition of women veterans in attendance. From trailblazers of the past to those currently serving, the event celebrated the impact of women in uniform across every branch of the military.
A digital exhibit honoring women veterans is now available showcasing their stories and contributions. I encourage everyone to visit and learn more about these remarkable women.
