Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-41) issued the following statement in response to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling upholding Act 40 of 2023:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is validation of what we have long stood for – advancing measures to ensure public safety throughout Pennsylvania communities. Act 40 was robust legislation supported by every member of our Senate Republican Caucus. The measure also received bipartisan support in both the Senate and House, was signed into law by Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro and was supported by SEPTA.

“The lawlessness perpetuated by District Attorney Larry Krasner has been detrimental to the safety of America’s 6th largest city. However, since Act 40 was fully implemented, we have seen greater stability for riders and employees across the SEPTA network, along with a decline in crime. We are a state governed by laws, and those laws must be upheld for our Commonwealth to continue to grow and thrive.”
