HARRISBURG – Legislation that includes Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver’s initiative to name a portion of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway in Snyder County as the Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway achieved final passage today and now heads to the Governor.
Senate Bill 78, an omnibus transportation bill, was amended to include language originally introduced by Culver as Senate Bill 365. This provision designates the portion of U.S. Route 15 in Monroe Township and Shamokin Dam Borough—from the interchange with U.S. Routes 11/15 and U.S. Route 522 north of Selinsgrove to the interchange with U.S. Route 15 and PA Route 147 south of Winfield—as the Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway.
“Joe McGranaghan served his community with distinction for more than 30 years, including as Mayor of Shamokin Dam,” Culver said. “This designation is a fitting tribute to his legacy of leadership, integrity, and public service. I’m proud to see this recognition advancing to the Governor’s desk.”
Mr. McGranaghan’s long-standing public service career included roles on the Shamokin Dam Borough Council and various regional planning organizations. His work helped shape transportation, land use, and economic development policies, and he was instrumental in the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway project.
Senate Bill 78 now awaits the Governor’s signature to be enacted into law.
