Robinson Resolution Recognizing 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps Adopted by Senate

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Senate today voted to adopt Sen. Devlin Robinson’s (R-37) resolution designating Nov. 10, 2025, as Marine Corps Day in Pennsylvania in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps.

“Philadelphia is known as the birthplace of our Marines where in 1775 two battalions of Marines were established to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War,” Robinson said. “Tun Tavern in Philadelphia served as the first recruiting station for the Marines, a branch of our military that today boasts nearly 180,000 active-duty members and more than 35,000 reservists – many of whom call Pennsylvania home. I’m proud to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps where I deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks on our nation, and I’m honored to be celebrating the Corps’ 250th birthday with the passage of this resolution in the Pennsylvania Senate today.”

Robinson said the resolution recognizes the enduring legacy and contributions of the Marine Corps, from its founding in Philadelphia to its continued service around the world.

“This resolution is a small way to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the Marine Corps and dedicated themselves to protecting our nation,” Robinson said. “I am pleased that my colleagues in the Senate joined me in recognizing this important milestone today by adopting this resolution.”

The resolution commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps’ establishment and reaffirms Pennsylvania’s deep historical connection to its founding. Tun Tavern links the commonwealth permanently to one of the nation’s most storied military institutions.

Robinson will also host a ceremony on Nov. 18, at 9 a.m. in the rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol building to celebrate the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday. The ceremony will feature guest speakers, historic Marine Corps artwork, and the ceremonial cake cutting to celebrate the Corps’ 250th birthday. A livestream of the event will be available at www.senatorrobinson.com.
