Martin and Picozzi Honor Fallen Police Officers, Recognize Law Enforcement Heroes

HARRISBURG – Senators Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) and Joe Picozzi (R-Philadelphia) highlighted a resolution this week to recognize the bravery and service of Pennsylvania’s law enforcement community, including those who were killed in the line of duty.

Martin and Picozzi introduced Senate Resolution 97 designating the week of May 11-17 as “National Police Week” and May 5 as “Police Officers’ Memorial Day” in Pennsylvania.

Martin presented the resolution at the Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge’s Police Memorial Ceremony at the Pennsylvania Capitol Building on Monday.

“We owe a special debt of gratitude to all the courageous men and women who serve and protect our communities in law enforcement,” Martin said. “Our police officers face new and unique threats every day, and they all deserve our sincere thanks. As we honor these heroes, we also hold a place of special reverence in our hearts for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our communities.”

This year’s ceremony honored Philadelphia Police Officer Jaime Roman, who was killed in the line of duty on September 10, 2024.

“This week calls us to reflect on the courage it takes to wear the badge and the sacrifice that comes with it. Every day, officers across the Commonwealth choose to serve—knowing the risks, and accepting them,” said Picozzi. “These men and women are true heroes—often working behind the scenes, facing danger head-on, and putting the safety of others before their own.”
