Laughlin’s Unwavering Advocacy for Repealing Ban on Sunday Hunting Results in Bill Going to Governor’s Desk

Sunday Hunting Ban Repeal Bill Set to Become Law

HARRISBURG — As a longtime advocate of repealing the ban on Sunday hunting, Sen. Dan Laughlin, (R-49) is proud to announce that the General Assembly has approved legislation that would do just that, sending the measure to be signed into law.

Laughlin introduced Senate Bill 67 earlier this year, and has introduced a similar bill every Session in the past. The legislation approved today would repeal Pennsylvania’s blue laws that have prohibited Sunday hunting for decades as well as modernize the state’s hunting regulations, increasing access for hunters and supporting local businesses.

“The full repeal of this archaic restriction is finally coming to fruition thanks to the bipartisan support of the General Assembly,” said Laughlin. “My advocacy for removing the state Sunday hunting restriction has been unwavering from the moment I was elected to office in 2016.”

Laughlin thanked Rep. Mandy Steele, D-33, for her leadership in the House and acknowledged former Sen. Jim Brewster for laying the early groundwork that helped make this moment possible.

Sunday is often the only day available to hunt for many residents, especially rural families, and these outdated restrictions have long hindered outdoor recreation and economic growth in the commonwealth.

“These restrictions will hinder our residents no longer,” added Laughlin. “Pennsylvania hunters, young and old, will now have the chance to fully participate in a cherished outdoor tradition while also continuously building family bonds and enjoying our commonwealth’s great outdoors. This is a change I am truly proud to have fought for.”

The bill now awaits the governor’s signature.
