Farry Chairs First Voting Meeting of Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee

HARRISBURG State Sen. Frank Farry (R-6) yesterday chaired the inaugural voting meeting of the Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee, marking a milestone in the Senate’s efforts to improve long-term infrastructure planning and foster innovation across the commonwealth.

Created earlier this session, the committee is tasked with exploring forward-thinking policy solutions to improve the efficiency, resilience and effectiveness of Pennsylvania’s institutions. Its focus includes sustainability in public infrastructure, support for research and development and advancing innovative practices in government and industry.

“This committee was formed with a clear mission: to take a proactive approach to maintaining our institutions while embracing the innovations that will define our future,” said Farry. “Yesterday’s meeting was an important first step in that direction.”

The committee advanced Senate Bill 811, sponsored by Farry, which would establish a state match for businesses that receive federal funding through the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. These federal grants support early-stage technology development and commercialization efforts by small businesses.

“By supporting innovation and ensuring the integrity of our public infrastructure, we’re laying the foundation for a stronger, more competitive Pennsylvania,” Farry said. “This committee will continue to lead on practical, impactful policies that prepare our state for the future.”

The Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee is scheduled to meet again later this summer to continue evaluating proposals that modernize state systems and support entrepreneurial growth.
