Boosting PA Tourism and Showcasing Iconic Snack Makers
HARRISBURG – The Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee today approved a bipartisan resolution introduced by Sens. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) and Lisa Boscola (D-Lehigh & Northampton) to establish a statewide “Sweet & Salty Trail” celebrating Pennsylvania’s world-renowned snack food and confection industry.
Senate Resolution 128 directs the Department of Community and Economic Development to work with Pennsylvania businesses and tourism partners to develop a trail highlighting the commonwealth’s iconic brands, regional favorites, and small and mid-sized companies that make Pennsylvania the snack capital of the nation.
“From the ‘Snack Food Capital of the World’ in York County to the ‘Sweetest Place on Earth,’ Pennsylvania’s snack and confection makers have built an industry that is second to none,” Phillips-Hill said. “Creating a Sweet and Salty Trail is a fun, strategic way to spotlight the companies and workers who fuel our economy, attract visitors, and make Pennsylvania more competitive on the national stage.”
Phillips-Hill and Boscola, who serve as co-chairs of the bipartisan, bicameral Pennsylvania Competitiveness Caucus, said the initiative reflects the caucus’s mission to strengthen Pennsylvania’s long-term economic competitiveness by promoting industries that drive growth, job creation, and investment.
“Every corner of Pennsylvania has its own iconic bite, and this trail is an opportunity to celebrate that hometown pride,” Boscola said. “It’s a chance for visitors and residents alike to explore the small shops, family recipes, and regional traditions that make Pennsylvania such a flavorful place.”
With the United States preparing to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the senators said the timing is ideal to showcase Pennsylvania’s heritage and culinary legacy.
The resolution now advances to the full Senate for consideration.
