GET YOUR MAMMOGRAM
Annual mammograms are recommended for women beginning at age 40 or beginning as early as age 25 if a woman is considered at increased risk for breast cancer. Factors that increase risk can include a family history of breast cancer, dense breast tissue, a genetic predisposition to breast cancer or previous radiation therapy.
Thanks to Act 1 of 2023 and Act 52 of 2025, both approved with unanimous bipartisan support, insured Pennsylvanians at high risk of breast cancer no longer have co-pays, deductibles or co-insurance costs for breast MRIs, breast ultrasounds and BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling.

- One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. But when detected at its earliest stages, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is over 90%.
- Screening mammograms have been shown to reduce breast cancer death by 22%.
- About 1 in 4 women ages 50 to 74 years had not received a mammogram in the past two years (as of 2022).
- Women who reported cost as a barrier to access health care had about 2 times the odds of not getting a mammogram or follow-up screening.
