HARRISBURG – Upcoming events in Gettysburg and Harrisburg will focus on legislative efforts to better protect animals against abuse and inhumane treatment.
The Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Majority Policy Committee will hold a joint hearing on legislation introduced by Senator Rich Alloway II (R-33) that would prevent animals from being tethered in unsafe conditions and set standards for animal shelters. The hearing will be held on Friday, April 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Charlie Sterner Building at the Gettysburg Recreation Center, 545 Long Lane.
The hearing will be followed by a news conference and “Yappy Hour: Be Kind to Pets” pet rally at the Gettysburg Recreation Center and Dog Park from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Sen. Alloway and Sen. Andy Dinniman (D-19) will host a press conference and Be Kind to Pets rally on Sunday, April 19 beginning at 2 p.m. on the Capitol steps to announce a package of seven bills and two resolutions designed to protect pets.
