Joint Hearing on Multi-Municipal Planning and Shared Services to be Held in Greensburg

THURSDAY, April 10 at Greensburg Garden and Civic Center

Harrisburg – The Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland), and the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, chaired by Sen. John Pippy (R-Allegheny), will hold a joint public hearing on multi-municipal planning and shared services on Thursday in Greensburg.

The hearing will focus on best practices at the local level, current state efforts to promote intergovernmental cooperation, and recommendations on how the state can further encourage multi-municipal planning and shared services.

The hearing will be held Thursday, April 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road in Greensburg.

“As a former local official, I was pleased to play a role in developing a multi-municipal plan to guide growth with coordinated land use and transportation planning,” said Regola.  “Now, one of my priorities as Chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee is encouraging intergovernmental cooperation.”

“Municipalities that plan together, and share services and equipment, can better manage development and save taxpayer dollars,” said Pippy. “We want to use the hearing to discuss ways to promote more cooperation and identify any state laws or regulations that may be making it more difficult for local governments to work together and share costs.”
