Fighting For the Same Worker Rendell is Looking to Furlough

HARRISBURG—Further explaining stalled budget negotiations in
the Commonwealth, President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati
expressed disbelief that Governor Rendell is jeopardizing
the livelihood of Pennsylvania families.
"I am troubled that Governor Rendell would consider harming
the very families Senate Republicans are trying to protect
with the threat of furloughs," Scarnati said. "It is
unbelievable that the Governor would use the working
families of Pennsylvania who live paycheck to paycheck, as
pawns in his attempt to leverage support for his
initiatives."
"If Governor Rendell is confident that his un-related budget
proposals are in the best interest of the citizens of the
Commonwealth, then he should not need to hold the budget
hostage in order for successful passage," Scarnati stated.
"Compromising the way of living for thousands of workers and
families is improper and not an appropriate way to do
business."
"Senate Republicans are here, ready to complete a
responsible budget so that furloughs do not become reality,"
Scarnati added. "We ask the Governor to commit himself to
completing a budget and ensure that those who are working
continue to work."
"The Governor is the only person that can negate furloughs
by realizing we are sincere about finishing a budget with no
tax increases, no new taxes this or next fiscal year, no
accounting gimmicks, and no excessive spending," Scarnati
concluded.
