Orie to Join Students, Military Organizations
to Kick Off Annual "Reach Out and Touch a Hero Program"
HARRISBURG -- Senator
Jane Orie (R-Allegheny) will hold a news conference on Thursday, December 7, to
kick off her annual "Reach Out and Touch A Hero" initiative, which encourages
students and others to send email greetings of support to local servicemen
overseas.
The
news conference will take place at 9 a.m. in the upper level in front
of Marshalls Department Store at the Northway Mall on McKnight Road in
Pittsburgh.
The
annual event enables students across Pennsylvania to show their support
for active members of the Armed Forces by sending emails and
correspondence to service men and women stationed in the Middle East and
around the world.
Orie
will be joined by students from a number of local schools that are
participating in the program, including St. Alexis, Shaler Area
Schools, Deer Lakes Schools, Ross Elementary School, and Burchfield
Elementary School. Members of various military divisions will also be
on hand, as well as organizations and groups who are collecting
donations to send overseas.
"Many
young people don't realize the tremendous sacrifices that our service
members make to ensure our freedom," Sen. Orie said. "Now is the time
that we need to show our troops that we support them and we truly
appreciate their efforts and their sacrifice. This program will help
students gain a greater appreciation for our service men and women, and
enable them to show their support and gratitude by sending emails to
troops around the world."
