Republicans Name New Representatives for CFA and PICA Boards
HARRISBURG -- Senator
Robert C. Jubelirer recently filled positions on two important appointed boards.
Former
state Attorney General Jerry Pappert has been named to the Commonwealth
Financing Authority, which makes decisions on projects vying for funding
through an array of state economic development programs. Pappert is
currently with the law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP.
"Jerry
Pappert is a top-notch person and professional. We have a high level of
trust and confidence in Jerry's judgment and leadership ability. In the
strong competition for development funding, it is essential that the
projects with the greatest job and economic impact be approved. Based
on his experience, Jerry is familiar with every corner of the
Commonwealth and will contribute valuable insight to this process,"
Jubelirer said.
Varsovia Fernandez, the executive director of the Greater Philadelphia
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, has been named to the PICA board, which is
responsible for overseeing the finances of the City of Philadelphia.
"I am
impressed by her advocacy skills, her commitment to the quality of life
in the city, and her appreciation of the perspectives found in the
neighborhoods. She has quality experience working with business
start-ups, with financial services, and with community associations.
She will understand the numbers in the budget and the stories behind
those numbers," Jubelirer said.
Both
positions had been held by Gregg Melinson, who stepped down because of
increasing professional responsibilities in his law firm, Drinker Biddle
& Reath LLP. Jubelirer praised Melinson for his extensive, quality
service on behalf of Senate Republicans. "Gregg did terrific double
duty representing us on these significant boards. It was not an easy
assignment in getting the CFA up and running, and he helped make sure
that body has operated fairly and responsibly. I am grateful for the
work he did on our behalf."
