Senate Committee Approves Robbins' Bill

Strengthening Support for Local Governments

HARRISBURG -- Legislation sponsored by state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) that would enhance the status of the Center for Local Government Services -- the state's one-stop shop for local governments -- was approved by the Senate Community and Economic Development Committee last week.

The Center for Local Government Services, located within the Department of Community and Economic Affairs, provides a full range of technical and financial assistance to all levels of local government.  Its mission is to be the principal advocate for local governments; provide vital programs, services and training to local officials and municipal employees; and cut through red tape expeditiously to solve problems at the local level.

“With over 2,566 cities, townships, and boroughs in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that they have a direct and formidable link with state government,” said Robbins.  “Senate Bill 261 would ensure that the Center maintain a lead role in providing assistance to local officials -- now and in the future.”

Senate Bill 261 now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
