Wenger & Waugh to Hold Lancaster Hearing on
Farmland Preservation & Agricultural Initiatives
HARRISBURG -- Senator
Noah Wenger (R-Lancaster) and Senator Mike Waugh (R-York) will hold a public
hearing from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6 at the Farm and Home
Center, located at 1383 Arcadia Road in Lancaster.
The hearing will focus on
farmland preservation initiatives in Pennsylvania and current efforts underway
to preserve family farms. Among those scheduled to testify are Secretary of
Agriculture Dennis Wolff, representatives of agricultural and land preservation
organizations, the Lancaster County Blue Ribbon Commission and area farmers.
There will also be panel discussions on local efforts to preserve farmland.
Wenger and Waugh serve as
vice chairman and chairman, respectively, of the Senate Agricultural and Rural
Affairs Committee. They have introduced a comprehensive “Farmers First Agenda,”
which includes a number of measures designed to preserve farmland, prevent
sprawl, help farmers be more competitive and ensure that agriculture remains
Pennsylvania’s top industry. The senators are holding hearings to seek input on
their proposals and look for ways to help farmers.
