News Conference Remarks on National Guard Support
On many of the issues we confront, it is easy to
find a wide variety of views. On the issue of support for the National Guard,
there are a lot of good ideas to be found, but there is a common view on the
appropriateness and the urgency for action.
There is no question, there is no doubt, about the
importance and the value of the service provided by the men and women in our
Guard.
They face great risks. They disrupt their family
and professional lives. They deserve not only our moral support in their
mission and our prayers for their safety, but they deserve the tangible support
contained in this legislation.
In matters of education, in matters of employment,
in matters of tax relief, in matters of insurance coverage, we owe them special
consideration. Whether it is providing financial assistance, or extending
timelines for eligibility, the measures described today constitute a necessary
and tangible show of support by Pennsylvania.
Republican and Democrat, we are
united in our commitment, and unified in our purpose, to help those who are
proudly serving Pennsylvania and the nation.
