Senate Passes Gordner Bill to Assist Local Schools
with Costs of Complying with Tax Relief
HARRISBURG -- Legislation
introduced by Sen. John R. Gordner to assist local schools in implementing tax
relief today unanimously passed the Senate of Pennsylvania.
Senator Gordner introduced
Senate Bill 327 to provide reimbursements to school districts for the costs of
required mailings associated with Act 72, the Homeowner Tax Relief Act.
“When the Act was passed, the
General Assembly neglected to provide for the costs associated with two mandated
district-wide mailings,” said the Senator. “This resulted in an absolute
unfunded mandate for local schools at a time when budgets were already in place
and did not account for these costs.”
Senator Gordner introduced the
legislation after area school superintendents expressed concerns over the costs
associated with complying with the Act.
Senate Bill 327 now moves to
the House of Representatives for consideration. Senator Gordner said he expects
the final version of the bill to be included as part of the state budget when
the General Assembly considers the annual spending plan in June.
