Corman Joins Officials as Wounded Iraq War Veteran Receives
Student Loan Forgiveness
MIFFLINBURG -- State
Senator Jake Corman (R-34) and officials from the Pennsylvania Higher Education
Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and Citibank today presented a local Iraq war veteran
with loan forgiveness on student loans.
Lance Corporal Jeffrey A
Sanders, a resident of Millmont, Union County, and a 2001 graduate of
Mifflinburg Area High School, was wounded by a roadside bomb south of Baghdad,
Iraq on September 6, 2004. As a result of those injuries he had part of his
left leg amputated.
At the Mifflinburg Area High
School Library, Senator Corman along with officials from PHEAA and Citibank
presented a check to LCPL Sanders that will clear him of all his student loan
debt. He attended Penn State University (Altoona campus) prior to enlisting in
the Marines.
LCPL Sanders requested
information about PHEAA’s Armed Forces Loan Forgiveness Programs from Senator
Corman’s office. Senator Corman was then able to have PHEAA and Citibank agree
to a partnership to forgive all of Sanders’ student loans.
