Pennsylvania Senate Convenes 2005-06 Legislative
Session,
Welcomes Vance & Regola to Republican Caucus
Jubelirer Begins 20th Year as President Pro
Tempore
HARRISBURG -- The
Pennsylvania Senate convened today to begin its 2005-06 legislative session.
Two new members of the Republican Caucus were sworn
in during a ceremony in the Senate chamber: Senator Patricia Vance
(R-Cumberland) and Senator Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland).
Vance, a professional nurse, is the only member of
the Senate with a medical background. Prior to joining the Senate, she served
14 years in the House of Representatives. She replaces Senator Hal Mowery, who
retired last year.
Senator Regola is a professional surveyor and a
former chairman of the Hempfield Township Board of Supervisors.
Joseph A. Del Sole, President Judge of the Superior
Court of Pennsylvania, administered the oath of office for newly elected and
returning members. Republicans now hold a 29-19 majority in the Senate, with
two vacancies, and pending the imminent resignation of Sen. Jack Wagner
(D-Allegheny), who was elected Auditor General.
Senator Robert C. Jubelirer, (R-20) who begins his
20th year as President Pro Tempore, was sworn in by his wife, Commonwealth Court
Judge Renée Cohn Jubelirer.
Senate Secretary Mark R. Corrigan and Chief Clerk W.
Russell Faber were also sworn in by Judge Jubelirer.
The new
bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, the Most Reverend Kevin C.
Rhoades, offered the opening prayer. Bridgette Gan, a high school senior from
Dauphin County, sang the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”

State Representative Pat Vance of Cumberland County, left, and Bob Regola of
Westmoreland County, right, were sworn in during a January 4 ceremony in
the Senate chamber. Vance replaces retiring Senator Hal Mowery to serve the
31st District, and Regola represents the 39th District.
