Yaw Bill Honoring State Trooper Signed by Governor
HARRISBURG – Legislation honoring a fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper killed
in the line of duty was signed by Governor Corbett yesterday, according to State
Senator Gene Yaw (R-23), the bill's prime sponsor.
Senate Bill 1043, which designates the US Route 15 Bridge over State Route
3014 also known as Mill Lane, in Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, will
soon be named the "Trooper Gary Rosenberger Memorial Bridge."
On December 12, 1970, Trooper Gary Rosenberger, 26, was shot and killed while
performing an undercover narcotics investigation in Old Lycoming Township. He
had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 1 year and 7 months and left
behind a wife and daughter.
"Trooper Rosenberger was a
true hero in every sense of the word fighting the war on drugs," said Yaw. "He
gave his life protecting others and his sacrifice will be remembered forever."
Senate Bill 1043 was
unanimously approved by the House and Senate.
