Governor Corbett Signs Senator Pileggi's Legislation
Strengthening KOZ Program
HARRISBURG – Governor Tom Corbett has signed into law legislation authored by
Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) to strengthen Pennsylvania's
Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) program, Senate
Bill 1237.
Now known as Act 16 of 2012, Senator Pileggi’s legislation provides
powerful new job creation tools for Pennsylvania by authorizing up to 15 new
zones, known as Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zones.
During his budget address on February 7, Governor Corbett said that Senator
Pileggi's bill has "the potential to bring thousands of jobs to Pennsylvania.
This sends a strong message that Pennsylvania is open for business."
KOZs, which provide tax benefits to companies which create jobs in designated
zones, have been called "the number one economic development strategy in the
nation" by Business Facilities magazine.
