Media Alert – News Conference Scheduled for Thursday July 28 in Erie to Outline Implementation of PA’s New DUI Ignition Interlock Law

Senator John Rafferty (R-44) and Senator Sean Wiley (D-49) will hold a news conference at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 28th on the steps of the Erie County Court House (6th Street side) to discuss the state’s new ignition interlock law.

They will be joined by state and local officials and other supporters of Act 33 of 2016 to outline how the law will be implemented, specific provisions, and public education efforts.

A car equipped with an ignition interlock system will be available for demonstration purposes.

The law, passed in May after six years of effort and advocacy, would require most first-time offenders of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) to have ignition interlocks installed on their vehicles for at least one year.

It is intended to reduce repeat DUIs, decrease highway crashes and save lives, while allowing drivers to use their vehicles for work and other purposes in a controlled setting.
