Legislative Leaders Comment on Pittsburgh ICA

(HARRISBURG) – Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25) and Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-28) have issued the following statement regarding the Pittsburgh Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority:

“Today’s actions serve to further illustrate the difficult dynamic that currently exists surrounding the Pittsburgh Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (ICA) Board and City of Pittsburgh.  We fully believe it remains crucial that the ICA Board and the City of Pittsburgh work collaboratively together towards the mutual goal of supporting the City of Pittsburgh’s sustainable fiscal recovery.

“The ICA Board members who have made well thought out decisions with the goal of helping to strengthen the City of Pittsburgh should be saluted for their fiscal leadership. The City’s unfunded pension crisis and rising debt remain a primary concern moving forward and we fully trust the ICA made the correct decision to withdraw budgetary approval at this time.

“As the only two legislative leaders who have fulfilled our responsibility of ensuring appointments to the ICA Board, we welcome Mayor Peduto to the Capitol at any time to meet with us.”
