The Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee and the House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee will hold a joint public hearing in Scranton on Wednesday, August 24th, to gather testimony on the Rewrite of Title 35, the Commonwealth Public Safety Code and the state’s Regional Task Forces.

The hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, located at 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton.  Officials scheduled to testify at the hearing include PEMA Director Rick Flinn, as well as representatives from:

  • Northeast PA Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force
  • PA Region 13 Task Force (invited)
  • South Central Regional Task Force
  • South East PA Regional Task Force

“The House and Senate are working together to update Title 35 – the state’s emergency management law – and we want to specifically examine the role that our Regional Task Forces play,” said Senator Randy Vulakovich, Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee.

“Emergency planning and preparedness is vital towards ensuring a proper state of readiness.  It is important that we provide emergency management officials the resources that they need to best serve the public in times of crisis,” said Representative Frank Farry, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Security & Emergency Response.
